With only about five hours of sleep under our belts,we hit the road again with Vail insight. Much of the drive was uneventful and even boring: police cars populated Kansas flat and desolate terrain. After 8 hours of driving, we finally hit the Denver city limits giving us a true sense of accomplishment. We briefly debated eating at the original Chipotle in downtown Denver, but settled for a Qdoba when we realized it would take us 10 miles off I-70...maybe on the way back. Driving through the Rockies is an unbelievable experience: the scenery is gorgeous, the roads are dangerously steep & windy, and people drive like manics (trying to max their shred the gnar time, as were we).
We arrived in Eagle-Vail around 4pm local time to find a driveway covered with 4" of snow, just a portion of the 9" the resorts received last night. The house is great with three bedrooms and two and a half baths, a garage, and an essential apres-ski private hot tub what more can you ask for. After unpacking the truck and arranging all of our gear, we headed over to City Market (the local Kroger) to pick up some bus passes and groceries. Finally around 8pm, we sat down for some pizza, beers, a fire, and a ski movie showing followed by some much needed hot tub therapy. After 26 hours of driving over two days, I must say there's no better feeling than getting into a hot tub with a beer surrounded by mountains, snow, and Christmas lights.
So we're off to bed early to get a full night of sleep before hitting slopes at opening tomorrow. Snow report calls for flurries overnight and continues to track a large storm for the weekend. Keeping our fingers crossed, check out a couple photos of the place bellow. More to follow tomorrow with pow pics......
